Why Brennan Johnson's £35m Move to Crystal Palace Could Be a Perfect Fit Under Glasner @Spurs_Zone

When it comes to Brennan Johnson, it's an interesting case for Spurs fans. Never in my life of supporting Spurs, have I seen a player both unite and divide the fanbase into two. Every Tottenham fan is forever thankful for the finishing touches he put on that ball as it trickled into the United net to win us the Europa League trophy, and to end our 17 year trophy drought.

The issue of Johnson comes into is general play in football. Johnson isn’t the flashiest winger, he is very fast and suits transitional football to a beam, but he can't take his man on a consistent basis. In fact, he only averages 0.73 successful take-ons per 90, a disappointing stat to say the least. Johnson can be bullied off the ball very easily, due to his weak positioning when he is dribbling 1v1 with against the full-back. However, Johnson was never to be a flashy 1v1 winger, like Yamal, Williams, Doku etc., he's a final third demon. Johnson is very elite when running in behind. He times his run to perfection and due to his acceleration, he will beat his full-back in a foot race. If you have a look at Johnson's goals, they are all from running in behind or to the back post and tapping it in for a goal. Johnson's movement in the box is so unpredictable that the full-back will most likely lose to Johnson.

When looking at Glasner's system, it suits all of Johnson's strengths and masks his weakness as an attacker. With players like Wharton and Pino being the creative outlets in the team, it allows Johnson to be free and make the dangerous runs with clinical finishes. Something Palace fans have found frustrating with Mateta's inconsistent finishing. I expect the £35m move to be a success with a little European trophy at the end of the season being even more likely.
